Traveling is a wonderful experience, a real awesome-memory maker but there can be a down side. Depending on how far away you go, the fatigue of travel and the adaptation to time changes can ruin the first days – and sometimes even weeks – of your stay and/or when you return back home.
What if I told you there is a way to limit the effects of JetLag on your body?
The Secret Technique
The Principle
The principle of this technique is to synchronize your organs and their functions with the time it is where you are going. How does this work? Well, to put it simply you stimulate specific points at specific times which will activate the corresponding organ through a reflex arc. This activation will consequently adjust your organs to the time zone you’re heading to and doing so will reduce the Jetlag effect.
How to Proceed
1. First of all, as soon as you get on the plane set your watch at the local time of your destination; in addition, try not to think about the time it is in the place you’re leaving.
2. Then, if you want, it can help to try to visualize the time/moment of the day it is where you’re going.
3. Next, review the table below (Table 1)…which organ corresponds the time slot you are in? (it’s the destination’s time that matters! So if you’ve correctly followed step 1 you just have to look at your watch 🙂 )
ORGAN | TIME SLOT | POINT |
---|---|---|
Lung | 3am – 5am | L8 |
Colon | 5am – 7am | LI1 |
Stomach | 7am – 9am | ST36 |
Spleen | 9am – 11am | SP3 |
Heart | 11am – 1pm | HT8 |
Intestine | 1pm – 3pm | SI5 |
Bladder | 3pm – 5pm | B66 |
Kidney | 5pm – 7pm | K10 |
Pericardium | 7pm – 9pm | P8 |
“Sanjiao” | 9pm – 11pm | SJ6 |
Gallbladder | 11pm – 1am | G41 |
Liver | 1am – 3am | LV1 |

4. Once you know the organ, stimulate the corresponding points to activate it (you’ll find the point’s locations on Figure 1 below)
Figure 1
To stimulate the points: Use your thumb or a pen with its cap (I personally prefer the thumb) and stimulate the point by applying pressures on it: 5-6 rounds of 5 pressures for a total of 25 to 30 pressures. Remember to do both sides, 1 point on the Right and 1 on the Left!
5. Then, every 2 hours you repeat the process: stimulate the point activating the organ corresponding to the time slot.
6. When you arrive, just stimulate the corresponding point and you’re good to go!
What if I fall asleep?!
Yes, I know, flights can be very long and you may not want to stay awake the entire duration – don’t worry if you sleep during your flight, that’s totally fine. When you wake up just stimulate the corresponding organ – it doesn’t matter if you miss organs while you’re asleep – upon waking just continue the cycle every 2 hours.
Keep in mind that this method will make the jetlag effects easier on your body, so you may still feel effects; however, you can expect to experience symptoms at a lesser level, for a shorter period of time, a lot more manageable and with less impacts on your activities.
Depending on your state of mind, your body, the length of the jetlag, your alimentation while you’re onsite, it might not be enough. In that case, know that your osteopathic manual practitioner is here to help you.
How osteopathy manual practice can help
The effects of the jetlag on your body are mostly due to your organs not being synchronized with your body, nervous system and the right time. It is like your internal clock is set at the wrong time.
What your Osteopathic Practitioner will do is make sure there is no restriction around your organs, ensuring full mobility and flexibility, and nothing structural that could prevent them from functioning properly. We’ll also check if there is anything with the nervous system that could be interfering with the way your organs should work, making sure that all the information can properly reach the target organs. Some work can also be done to normalize the internal abdominal and thoracic pressures which could be restricting the organs. And if it’s just that your organs are being lazy, then we’ll wake them up and stimulate them!
Now with this new secret technique in your pocket nothing will prevent you from enjoying travelling as far as you want, or at least with less discomfort. And if you happen to suffer from jetlag effects for too long, well, you know where to find us!
